Pet Rescue Raffle Update!

We have lots of Raffle news today!

First of all, Mom would like to thank all of you who have donated! And so do we! We really appreciate the time and the effort, not to matter the green papers you've given!

Next, Mom now has ALL the raffle prizes in the prize package in hand (some of them took a while to arrive. Delivery has been slower than usual, prob'ly because of all the storms round here lately!).

Mom also has Pet Rescue Raffle fliers printed and ready to go to the local pet shops, as of last Thursday. But she had to fly out of town and couldn't get them to the pet shops then! She was in Seattle until yesterday, visiting our cousin kitteh cats Mira and Rose and our woofie cousin Calvin.

Mom debated whether she should give up on the fliers so that the raffle would end on schedule, but she really thinks that extending the raffle a few more days instead may mean more beans will buy tickets for the big prize package, which means more green papers for the woofies and the kittehs and the buns and the hampsters and everyone!

So, the Pet Rescue Raffle will has been extended! The closing date for donations is now: Friday, September 5th. Everybody got that? So there is still time to donate and get chances to win!

But REMEMBER! Friday, September the 5th is the absolute last day of the Pet Rescue Raffle! That means your last chance to enter and win is coming up fast!

Announcing the First Annual Pet Rescue Raffle!

Cool Moms Rule! and The Cheezits are proud to co-sponsor the first ever Pet Rescue Raffle to benefit the Humane Society of South Brevard. The South Brevard facility is a No-Kill shelter for any animals--not just cats like the Cheezits but dogs, rabbits, ferrets, you name it--that need a home.

As a proud pet owner of two rescued kitties from this very shelter, Viv wanted to give something back to all the wonderful volunteers who work so hard to help abandoned, abused and needy animals find loving homes. We hope to make the Pet Rescue Raffle an annual event.

Now, I know our readers, and I know that some of you are ready to donate right now, just because you are

animal lovers like me and know this is a great cause. And I love that about all of you. But we have been blessed to find wonderful benefactors for our cause that are donating a fabulous Prize Package that you could win just for donating!

They have given us both cat AND dog feeding bowls (the cat bowl is a double one with cute fish on the side, not pictured), leashes in blue, pink and red (the red one hooks to a seatbelt to keep your dog or puppy safe in the car or van), and a nice chewy "big kahuna" dog toy. What's really cool about the feeding bowls is they come with disposable liners that you can throw out, so you don't have to keep cleaning your pet's bowl out every day!

The lovely Mira Tweti (and yes, it IS pronounced "Tweety"!) of Parrot Press is sending us a copy of her absolutely gorgeous book, Here, There and Everywhere, chronicling the adventures of Sreeeeeeeet the Lorikeet, and an illustrated poster companion set as well.

Barbara Thomas, of Ruby Jane's Retro Fabric and More, who has been owned by not one but two rescued shelter dogs, is generously donating a gorgeous red dog bed and cover.

Dog's Eye View Media is providing us with a copy of each of these great books, which are ideal for kids of all ages (as they say on the site, "from 8 to 108"), and look absolutely adorable: Let's Go Visit Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, and The Night Before a Dogtown Christmas, both signed by the author, Avonelle Kelsey.

Who Are Dese Orangey Kittehs, Anyway?

Once, we were just two scared little kittens, clinging to our mother. We must have been very poor, because we weren't very clean or healthy and we had (this is so embarrassing) worms and stuff. We lived day-to-day, and we both remember being very hungry, all the time.

It seemed like we were barely old enough to walk when we were taken away from our mother and brought to a strange place, with lots of other cats (and big scary dogs!). We didn't know why, or what we had done. This place became known to us only as the Shelter.

So, there we were: at the Shelter, in a cage, cuddled together, keeping our spirits up and waiting for a chance to escape, not knowing what else to do, when a surprising new face came to see us.

She smiled at us, and looked us over without poking her fingers in our faces. She made sure our itchy ears were cleaned and those embarrassing worms were taken care of. And she didn't put us back into the cage.

Instead, she took us to a new, totally different place. A place where we have lots of food to eat and fresh water to drink. A place where there's always clean litter. Where there are toys to chase and soft places to sleep.

And we learned a new word.

That word is, "Home."

We are Colby and Cheddar. And this is our story.
